5 Ways to Stop Going to that Useless Gym.

By Rene Anderson

Most gyms aren't worth it. Yeah, you might be a gym devotee, or you think you're happy with your current setup, but let me tell you something - there are other ways of working out you should try.

And hey, if you're in love with the gym as-is, then you've got nothing to worry about. But if you're thinking of a change, peruse these 5 reasons and make a new choice.

#5: It Costs Way Too Much.

Face it - the gym is expensive. If you are living in a big city, memberships can run upwards of $100/month, and there are no compensation if you don't happen to go for a few weeks. Unless you're lucky and have access to a student gym on the cheap, paying full membership price will seriously hurt your wallet. Gyms like making money.

#4: You Don't Want to Become a "Gym Rat". Ever.

There's no other place in the world where you have to put up with the kind of people you do in a gym. There are tons of people there just to show off, and they come in and strut around in front of you just to boost their egos. Sure, if it's a beautiful woman or girls, a well-toned man, you probably don't mind, but otherwise, you've got better things to do.

#3: The Sweat of Others is Not Pleasant.

Sure, the paper towels (or dirty towels brought from home) and the little spray bottles are there, but really loads of people just don't bother to wipe down the machines they've been using before. You can block it out of your mind, but that only works until you sit down on a machine that is dripping with sweat and realize it is definitely not your own.

#2: Doing the Same Crap Every Day Will Drive You Insane.

No matter how may audio books you go through, magazines you bring, albums you listen to, or variations in exercise you try and do, you'll eventually be repeating yourself in a gym, where - face it - you're confined into a little room for hours, doing the same repetitive movements over and over until you can feel a difference. Life is too short.

#1: You are Completely Free Outside.

So you made it - you finally pulled yourself free from the glorified indentured servitude also known as 'working out in a gym'. Once the initial high of extreme happiness wears off, you'll be faced with an unfamiliar emotion - freedom. Run anywhere you want. Do whatever exercises you feel like, in your own house, out in a park, or in the damn street, if you want. But don't go back to paying $100+ every few weeks for the privilege of sweating very close to a bunch of other people. It's just not worth it. - 29959
