Everything You Need To Know About Bellybutton Piercing

Bellybutton piercing has become very popular; bellybutton rings look great whether they can be seen by only you or are visible when you wear crop tops and hipster jeans.

Before you go to the trouble and expense of have your bellybutton pierced, check the actual position of your bellybutton in relation to the clothes you wear. Make sure the belly button ring is not going to catch on the waistbands of pants or skirts. If you want your bellybutton ring to be seen, check that it will be visible above your clothing.

It is best to have your bellybutton piercing done at a reputable salon to avoid the possibility of infection. Only go to an experienced specialist who works in a clean environment; it would be great if you can use someone who has been recommended by a friend who had their piercing done there. Check to make sure they use sterilized or single-use equipment so there is no chance of cross-contamination.

Choose a plain bellybutton ring when you have the piercing done; these are easier to keep clean and free from infection. You shouldn't try to change the ring for another one before the piercing site has completely healed; this could be 2 or 3 weeks, so be patient.

Each day, when you have a bath or shower, make sure you dry the area around your piercing well. Put on some antiseptic and turn the ring around several times to prevent the skin healing over the metal. Re-apply the antiseptic after every shower and work it into the wound and around the ring, and continue to do this until it has healed over.

If you notice any redness around the piercing, it could mean you have developed an infection, so it would be advisable to seek medical advice. If the wound starts to weep or ooze white liquid, get medical advice as a matter of urgency.

When your bellybutton piercing has healed completely, you can have some fun with changing your bellybutton rings to match or contrast with your outfit. Rather than have to take the ring out all the time, buy some inexpensive sterling silver charms and simply hang these onto the original bellybutton ring. This way you can have lots of changes without the hassle of taking out the ring and struggling to put another one in.
