Mother Of Pearl Jewellery Or Decor Creates Beautiful Homes

By Dennis Dunham

Centuries have passed since mother of pearl was first used, and since then not much has changed. Mother of pearl is perfect for beautiful jewellery, sure, but it's also ideal for decorating your home, for use as a decorative inlay, and enhancing architecture. Try using your imagination to brainstorm new ways to rejuvenate old items.

There are many ways to brighten up your home with mother of pearl.

Crafting Mother Of Pearl Jewellery For Yourself

There is no shortage to the number of ways you can use mother of pearl to infuse new life in an otherwise suffocated room. Mother of pearl's flexibility lends itself to any situation, any room, and any color scheme. Try making charm bracelets, earrings, watches, and necklaces all from mother of pearl and you'll see what I mean.

When you've determined what you want to make, think in terms of what you'll be using the item for when you've finished physically creating it. Put in as much of your own personality as you possibly can to give your jewellery a truly unique feel. Mother of pearl is too often left in black and white. These days, all bets are off and you can use any number of commercial acid based dyes to turn your mother of pearl jewellery into something outrageous and yet beautiful. Don't use non acid dyes, as these will not work as well and you'll end up dyeing repeatedly.

Nature created mother of pearl, which means that no pearl will be completely perfect. In fact, it's the oddball mother of pearl pieces that stand out the most in our minds. Put these showstoppers up front in your jewellery -- embracing nature will always help create a new look.

Decorating The House With Mother Of Pearl

It's a little harder than making mother of pearl jewellery, but not overly so. Be sure to allow yourself more time to complete this task, though. It's more time consuming than it is difficult.

Using an average jeweller's saw, cut carefully into your mother of pearl until you create several unique pieces. Weave them together. Laminate your decoration to metal or ceramic tile and cover it all with lacquer for that extra glossy look. Polishing compounds and sandpaper will work well, especially on felt. Be careful with this step, though, as mother of pearl can easily crack and break.

One amusing thing to do with mother of pearl is to create decorative inlays. Try making an interesting pattern and using some epoxy glue to attach the pieces you've made to the neck of the guitar.

Jewellery boxes that have overstayed their welcome are also great subjects for a little epoxy glue and a few fancy looking decorations. It's the same process as we've examined already, and the results will look great.

Using mother of pearl jewellery and home decorations can freshen up a tired old room with a few broad strokes. Each of these ideas will help give your home an arty, personalized spin that will make you proud for years to come. - 29959
